Every project is different and the cost can fluctuate greatly, but we post the most common questions here with as much information as possible to help you start your search off on the right foot.

How is your company structured?

At V&M Construction we have our own in-house Carpenters and Labourers, we assign a Site Supervisor to each project to oversee the day to day and insure progress and scope. We work with a design team that consists of our own designer as well as a third party team that we have a long standing relationship with.

What do you Specialize in?

Our specialty is Home Renovations & Additions within Waterloo & Wellington Regions. This is our wheel house and we exceed industry standards when it comes to your project. We do a number of Renovation projects throughout the year and don’t shy away from a challenge.

Do you have Staff or Subcontract?

Both. We have an in house team of Carpenters and Labourers that work along side professionally chosen sub-trades that we have built long relationships with.

Do you charge a deposit?

Yes. It's standard practice for reputable design-build companies to request a deposit. Typically, we charge a 10% design fee which contributes to the total project cost but also secure 30-50% of the project cost before construction. This isn't solely for our protection; it allows us to proactively secure essential materials. By doing so, we prevent potential delays during the construction phase due to items being sold out or on backorder, ensuring a smoother building process.

How long have you been in business?

V&M Construction has been a vision for 15 years and has now come to fruition in 2023. We are backed by 20 years of Industry knowledge and experience.

How much does it cost to build a deck?

The average deck can be built for approximately $100 per sq ft. The greatest factors involved in pricing the deck would be the size of the deck, covered or uncovered, type of footings, and which decking materials are used. There is an ever growing market for more weather resistant/low maintenance materials including composite, PVC and pressure treated wood, all of which are priced based on their advantages.

Can you replace your decking?

Yes. If your current deck framing is sturdy and relatively new, typically within the 6-8 year range, there's a possibility for reusing it. Through re-capping, we remove the surface decking while retaining the underlying structural elements like posts, beams and joists. This approach can offer considerable savings in both costs and time. However, it might impose limitations on new design possibilities or potential upgrades. Talk to the V&M Construction team to find out the details.
